To Answer His Call

The man at the window cried a swan song
To the house on the hill where he thought she had gone
With tuneful reminisces and lyrics in rhyme
The changing chord patterns to the metronome time.
On that quiet hill top she stood and stared and wondered how her ex-lover had fared
Did he miss her did he need her did he want her so
He only had to call she knew she would go

To answer his call, but his pride stood too tall.  What should she do?
Where should she go?  But she had to admit she loved him so

The man at the window turned from his gaze
He seemed to watch often in his darkened days
His heart said call his mind said no.  What he should do, he just didn’t know
She turned from her gaze and went to the phone, but then she wondered would he be alone
Damn him she said she would not give in, the initiative must come from him

To answer his call, but his pride stood too tall.  What should she do?
Where should she go?  But she had to admit she loved him so

Together in their grief, but still miles apart.  Both dying it seems from a broken heart
I want him she said I need her he cried
But their voices were lost like their love, their love that had died
